There are a few things to consider when trying to gauge the overall safety of an automobile. A good place to start is looking at safety features and driver-assistance technologies. In addition to those, it's important to see how a model is rated by premier organizations, such as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
At Richmond Lincoln, we thought we'd lay out the 2022 Lincoln Nautilus safety ratings for you. This way, when you book a test drive near Richmond, Mechanicsville, or Ashland, VA, you know what to expect!
IIHS SAFETY RATINGs

Classified in the luxury midsize SUV segment, 2019, 2020, and 2021 Lincoln Nautilus models received stellar scores from the IIHS.
The grading system the IIHS uses begins at the low end with Poor and moves to Marginal, Acceptable, and finally, Good, the highest score. The IIHS places these vehicles through rigorous testing sequences and crash simulations to best understand a model's overall safety levels.
The 2019, 2020, and 2021 Lincoln Nautilus vehicles received perfect scores across the board in terms of crashworthiness. In addition to grading out as Good in "small overlap front: driver-side" and "small overlap front: passenger side," the model also aced the following categories:
- Moderate overlap front
- Side
- Roof strength
- Head restraints and seats
While the IIHS has not yet released its safety rating for the 2022 Lincoln Nautilus, we expect it to be just as impressive as previous models.
NHTSA SAFETY RATINGs
Since the model's inception in 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus has received stellar safety ratings from the NHTSA.
The NHTSA uses a slightly different scoring system than the IIHS. Vehicles are graded on a scale of one to five stars, with five being the highest possible rating. Several different types of tests are scored on the 1-to-5 star system.
In 2019, 2020, and 2021, the Lincoln Nautilus received a perfect 5-Star Overall Safety Rating, which consolidates the scores of various tests into one grade.
Other areas the Lincoln Nautilus received perfect scores for 2019, 2020, and 2021 include:
- Front Driver Side
- Front Passenger Side
- Side Barrier
So, since the Lincoln Nautilus did so well in the past, how did it do in 2022? Like past models, the 2022 Lincoln Nautilus scored a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating for the frontal and side crash tests!
